The Confluence in our conference logo refers to The Forks, Winnipeg’s traditional meeting place at the junction of the Assiniboine and Red Rivers. For more than 6000 years, people have joined each other at The Forks to trade goods and ideas, to talk, and to learn from each other. Early Indigenous peoples met at The Forks, followed by European fur traders, Métis hunters, Scottish settlers, riverboat workers, railway pioneers, and tens of thousands of brave and determined immigrants. Our 2012 gathering of UELAC continues this proud tradition and we welcome you to enter into the flow of our rivers of time and togetherness.
